it's restaurant week in d.c., so alex and i decided to kick it off with a trip to the melting pot. i consider the restaurant to be one of my favorites, but unfortunately it's not one of those places i visit often. for one, even with this week's special pricing, my bill came to over $50. more importantly, there's no way i could eat that amount of food on a regular basis. the melting pot may be most popular for its variety of chocolate fondues and spread of dippers, but my personal favorite is the cheese course, which i believe sets me up for failure. i can't put down my skewers until every last attainable drop of cheese is gone and the microscopic layer that remains has been burned onto the bottom of the bowl. going on to eat three more courses after this indulgence is, i'm sure, what causes me to be too full to breathe for hours afterward. i'll put up with this minor inconvenience so long as it means i can have just one more chocolate covered marshmallow.
